For those of us who are not geologists, the prospect of comparing stones for our kitchen countertop needs can be intimidating. For centuries, people have quarried stone for sculpture, tables, columns, and other items. Today, modern engineering can combine different types of rock to produce new products. Stone like composite quartz can make household items more functional and less expensive. Quartz countertops are becoming more popular as consumers see the range of their benefits.
How are Quartz Countertops Made?
Quartz is a natural rock, but modern countertops made of quartz are actually a composite of ground quartz, polymer resin, and pigment. Quartz countertops have been around for over 30 years, but they have recently become more affordable and versatile enough that consumers are snatching them up.
Strength and Guarantees
Although granite and quartz are strong, granite is natural, and quartz is inspected in a lab. There’s almost no way for a granite supplier to know what’s on the inside of a granite slab. There could be a natural crack or defect that prevents the granite from being as strong as other pieces. Quartz, however, can more easily be guaranteed because it was created in a lab.
Colors and Uniqueness
The other benefit of quartz is the number of colors that it comes in. The pigment is artificial, so far-out colors like the brightest purple to the darkest green are possible. If you have a specific wish for a color of quartz, you can create a custom type of quartz countertops to fit your needs.
We’re remodeling our kitchen after 28 years, I know that I want quartz but have not been able to find a color we like. Do you have samples online of all your colors? Is there a distributor or store in around Jackson Michigan area?
How should I clean my quartz countertops?
We are considering soapstone on periphery and walk in pantry and a granite/quarts island. What are guru thoughts on soapstone? Do you have soapstone? And related to granite/quarts…. for us it may come down to cost…. I like some features of quartz….. we are in the Indianapolis area. Could you still service iour countertops?
Thanks!
